- Who is eligible for the Atlanta Families’ Awards for Excellence in Education (AFAEE) awards?
Basic Eligibility requirements include:
• All current APS and APS charter school teachers, who taught in the district during the
2010-2011 school year and who plan to teach in APS during the 2012-2013 school year,
are eligible to apply for the award.
• All current APS and APS charter assistant principals and principals, who led an APS or
APS charter school during the 2010-2011 school year, and who plan to return as APS
or APS charter assistant principals/principals during the 2012-2013 school year and
teach at a school on the district’s cleared schools list, are also eligible to apply. - What does the award consist of?
Each teacher and school leader winner is awarded $7,500 that includes funding for a school project of the winner’s choice ($3,500), funding for a professional development opportunity to increase the winner’s effectiveness in the school or classroom ($1,500), and a personal stipend ($2,500). - How is the application evaluated?
The Atlanta Families’ Awards for Excellence in Education and Atlanta Public Schools will convene a Selection Committee comprised of educators, non-educators and alumni, to blindly review applications based on our award criteria. Educators in APS receive this award by demonstrating excellence in three areas:
• Raising student achievement
• Enhancing students’ self-esteem
• Collaboration with multiple stakeholders for the benefit of APS students.
- What are some of the winners’ responsibilities?
Winner responsibilities include agreeing to have your name and likeness used for promoting AFAEE, allowing other teachers/school leaders to observe your classroom/school for best practices as authorized, supporting district initiatives such as Effective Teacher in Every Classroom, and delivering a professional development session on your project to your school as authorized. Additional responsibilities include documenting the implementation your project and student progress, and making it available for public viewing. By accepting the award, winners also commit to work within the Atlanta Public School district for the 2011-2012 school year. - What is the deadline for applications?

Please read the Student Achievement Page carefully to ensure that you are choosing the right Student Achievement Page on the application. - Where can I find my students' GT ID numbers for my application?
If you have been trained on the new district tool INsight, your students' GT ID numbers could be readily accessible in this tool. (Please see your principal and/or your school’s “critical connector” Learning Technology Specialist, or your SRT Model Teacher Leader for assistance.) GT ID numbers are also available in Infinite Campus. - Who should I contact with any questions/concerns?

After a nomination has been submitted, the nominee will receive a link to complete the application. The nominee must complete the application to be considered for the award. - What if I receive more than one nomination?
It doesn’t matter how many times you are nominated, you only need to complete the application once. - Is a nomination required prior to starting the application?
No, you do not have to be nominated to complete the application. You may register to apply without a nomination. - Are previous winners eligible to apply for the award again?
Yes, past winners (teachers and school leaders) are eligible to apply for the award again three (3) years after their initial award.
