Savannah Weekend Trip Cheap

Affordable Savannah Weekend Trip

Savannah, the lovely hostess city of the south, offers a plethora of exciting activities. What’s fascinating is that there are so many inexpensive and free things to do in Savannah GA that you could easily spend a weekend here without spending a penny to see any of Savannah’s famous attractions.

So, two of my dearest friends and I sat down to plan a Getaway to Savannah – on a budget. We set a budget of $150 per person and were pleasantly surprised by how simple it was to plan an itinerary within those constraints.

Almost FREE Airfare to Savannah

Round-trip airfare to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport from anywhere in the continental US for about $12! That $12 is just taxes and fees…the rest will be covered by airline miles. Now…let’s get you those airline miles! It’s super simple – there are two ways to get (nearly) free airfare for all 4 ladies into Savannah! American Airlines requires 25,000 miles for 1 round-trip ticket! With the rewards miles required, there are 2 current credit card sign-up bonus offers that will get you the miles you’ll need for 4 round-trip tickets. They’ll both get you the miles you’ll need…just in different ways (and times).

Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard

this card will require you to spend $3,000 on the card within the first 90 days of opening the card. After you’ve spent $3,000, and met that spend requirement, you’ll receive 60,000 AAdvantage bonus miles in your American Airlines account. This card has a $95 annual fee that is waived the first year. Therefore, you can receive 60,000 bonus miles without spending an additional penny more than you normally would…you’ll just need to wait out that spend requirement in order to get those bonus miles.

Barclay AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard

This card will require you to simply make one purchase (doesn’t matter the amount of the purchase) within the first 90 days of opening the card, and you’ll receive 50,000 AAdvantage bonus miles in your American Airlines account. This card has a $95 annual fee that is not waived…so, you can receive those 50,000 bonus miles very quickly by just swiping your card for one purchase, but you’ll be required to pay that $95 annual fee.

It doesn’t matter which credit card you choose…they’ll both give you the miles you’ll need. So, either 1 of the ladies could open both cards, meet the spend requirements, and receive a combined total of 110,000 bonus AAdvantage miles (and pay one $95 annual fee). Or, two ladies could each open whichever card they prefer, meet the spend requirements, and receive 100,000 AAdvantage miles at a minimum (and could avoid paying the annual fee if they both chose the Citi card)! Since you’ll need 100,000 miles to book 4 round-trip tickets…you’ll have the perfect amount! Now, taxes and fees are all you’ll have to pay out of pocket, which are about $12 per person.

Note

If we were planning this shindig, and didn’t have any miles…we’d have 2 ladies each open the Barclay AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard for a few of reasons.

  1. The Barclay offer is only good through the end of May and it might not come back after that.
  2. You literally just make one purchase…your morning coffee! 3) You can have your points within about a month!

The downfall is that you’ll be required to pay 2 $95 annual fees bringing the cost of each round-trip ticket up to just shy of $60!

Book a Luxury Hotel for FREE

So, we’re at $12 per person for this amazing getaway so far…now the hotel. We’re featuring Savannah Marriott Riverfront – from balconies with gorgeous waterfront views, to a beautifully manicured pool, this is hotel is connected to River Street making it the perfect spot for your getaway! If you were to book this room for 3 nights with cash it would cost $888! But, you could also book that exact same room for 3 nights for only 120,000 Marriott points (and zero dollars in cash!). Now, let’s get you those points you need to book that getaway stat! Marriott has one credit card offer that is perfect for this girls’ trip:

Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card

This card will require you to spend $3,000 on the card within the first 90 days of opening the card. After you’ve spent $3,000, to meet the spend requirement, you’ll receive 75,000 Marriott bonus points. This card has an $85 annual fee that is waived the first year. Therefore, you can receive 75,000 bonus points and 3,000 spend points without spending an additional penny more than you normally would…just use your card to make your normal monthly purchases and once you’ve hit $3,000 within the first 3 months, you’ll have your points.

If two gals were to open this credit card, and meet the required minimum spends, you’ll have a combined 156,000 Marriott points, which is way more than you’ll need. You can use 120,000 of those Marriott points to book your stay, and a have an extra 36,000 points for a rainy day…or another girls’ trip!

Final Word

Let’s recap these 2 easy steps. For 4 ladies to make this southern charm getaway to Savannah happen for less-than-your-weekly-Starbucks-addiction cheap, each of you will need to open one credit card each (2 American Airlines and 2 Marriott), and meet the minimum spend requirements. The airline bonus miles you’ll receive will provide just the right number of miles you’ll need for 4 round-trip tickets from anywhere in the continental US to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, you’ll just need to pay for the taxes and fees in cash – about $12 each.

You’ll only need to use 120,000 of those Marriott Rewards points you’ll receive in order to cover a 3-night stay at the gorgeous Savannah Marriott Riverfront! Your round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and taxes and fees will come to $12 EACH in cash! TWELVE DOLLARS.
