The Lodge at Sea Island

The Lodge at Sea Island has been awarded the AAA Five Diamond Award, recognizing the property as outstanding. The Lodge opened in 2001 as an intimate 40 room hotel and golf clubhouse. The Lodge has received recognition from Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List, Travel + Leisure World’s Best Hotels, and more.

The Cloister Story

Sea Island is part of the Golden Isles of Georgia, along with Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island, and Little St. Simons Island. The seacoast paradise was called “Millionaire’s Island” and brought the wealthiest families for vacation retreats at the beginning of the 20th century.

The Cloister opened in 1928 as a “Little Friendly Hotel” on the southern coast of Georgia. In 1929 the seaside golf course opened. The Mediterranean-style hotel featured architectural elements such as terra cotta roofs, sunlit garden patios, and old-world ambiance.

In 2003 the grandson of the original owner began his plan to replace the original building by rebuilding a modern-day luxury resort that replicated many for the original architectural feature. The revitalized resort emerged in 2007. Today there are 175 guest rooms and suites that overlook the Black Banks River, the Atlantic Ocean or the lush coastal environment.

The Cloister Amenities

The Georgian Room is one of seven restaurants available at Sea Islands Resorts. 100 Hudson, overlooking the Black Banks River, offers a daily breakfast buffet with Southern influence.

Wine lovers may enjoy The Cloister Wine Cellar, with its old-world character with brick-lined arches, antique oak ceilings, and wrought iron chandeliers. The wine cellar offers over 10,000 bottles of wins and 1,200 vintages.

Sea Island Resorts offers outdoor activities year-round on the seaside property. Guests can relax along a five-mile stretch of private beach on the Atlantic coast. Activities include golf, swimming pool, horseback riding, shooting school, boating, fishing, and tennis and nature activities.

Cloister Spa is the only Mobil Five Star spa in the state of Georgia.

In addition to the recreational outdoor activities, guests can enjoy a variety of artistic and cultural activities at Sea Island.
