Nestled in the Georgia Appalachian Mountains and on the pristine Lake Chatuge, Hiawassee, GA has many fun things to do on this great weekend getaway.
Hiawassee, Georgia is a small town located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northeast Georgia. Although places like the Bavarian hamlet of Helen, Georgia may get all the press and attention, Hiawassee provides a great Georgia weekend or week-long getaway.
Here are seven fun things to do in Hiawassee, Georgia.
Lake Chatuge in Northeast Georgia
There are sightseeing boating trips, and many marinas and boat rental stop all over Lake Chatuge. You can also go water skiing in warm weather or spend the afternoon fishing.
Hike to the top of Brasstown Bald and Stand on Georgia’s Highest Peak
Georgia’s highest point straddles several northeast Georgia counties, and the base of it is just about fifteen-twenty minutes away from downtown Hiawassee. You drive to about the halfway point of the mountain up a very steep and curvy road, where you will then reach a very large parking lot. At this point, you can take a shuttle the remainder of the way, or take one of the hiking trails. The hiking trails have a lot of steps and seem to go straight up. This is a lot of fun, but I would not recommend strollers on the path or doing it if you are out of shape.
Romantic Times at Brasstown Valley Resort

Check into luxurious surroundings, eat exquisite food at the Saturday night Prime Rib Buffet, play golf, and relax at the Equani Spa, where timeless Cherokee rituals are used in massage and other indulgences.
