Holiday Inn Express Review Hiawassee, Georgia

Hiawassee, Georgia – Holiday Inn Express (review)

Holiday Inn Express – Hiawassee, GA

The Holiday Inn Express in Hiawassee, Georgia is top-notch and has a great price when compared to another lodging in the area and is great for kids.

After several overnight trips to Hiawassee, Georgia, we have been very pleased while staying at the Holiday Inn Express right in the heart of Hiawassee.

Spacious Rooms in the Holiday Inn Express of Hiawassee

The rooms are large and have plenty of room at the Hiawassee Holiday Inn Express. We had plenty of room to move around, and we did not even stay in one of the larger rooms. We were located on the second floor and we could easily reach the lobby by elevator or by the homey landing that had a staircase that descended directly into the lobby. The landing is a large area that provides an overlook into the common lobby areas of the hotel.

The room itself had a large bathroom and sitting area. We had plenty of room for the kids and also to put up a playpen for our youngest child without tripping all over each other. The staff was great – polite and very helpful.

What to Do and What to See in Hiawassee, GA

No matter the season, bring your swimsuit. The pool is large at this particular Holiday Inn, as they tend to be at some of the older Holiday Inn properties. It is enclosed with large windows and doors surrounding it. Both the pool and the pool area are heated and it makes for a very nice activity for the kids in the early evening following dinner. Towels are provided at the pool area.

In the fall, you are close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, as well as Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia. Also, close by is the little Bavarian hamlet of Helen, Georgia. Head into Blue Ridge, Georgia for some incredible antique shopping. Hiawassee itself is full of quaint shops, including a large Christmas store and locally-owned restaurants.

Hiawassee is home to the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds and the Anderson Music Hall, which has festivals in the spring and fall, as well as musical performances from renowned performers throughout the year.

In the warmer months, take advantage of all the wonderful activities that revolve around Lake Chatuge, from fishing to water-skiing.

The Great Rustic Lobby in the Hiawassee Holiday Inn Express Hiawassee

The lobby in this hotel is a great place just to hang out and is one of the most comfortable ones I have seen in a Holiday Inn Express. There is a very large, two-story fireplace that is lit and provides an at-home feel during the cooler months. The staircase winds up beside this area. Leather chairs and other seating make it very kid-friendly. A new public computer allows guests to look up information right next to the fireplace.

The Hotel’s Free Breakfast Bar in Hiawassee, Georgia

As with most Holiday Inn Expresses, the free breakfast bar has the expanded and standard express breakfast fare. My kids love these, but I usually eat a quick low-carb snack that I have packed. What I like most about this breakfast bar is the area in which it is located. The very large and well-lit room was located directly by the indoor pool with big windows overlooking it. I was able to have a cup of coffee at any time of the day or evening and watch my children splashing in the pool with their dad. I was able to read local newspapers and magazines and watch all the fun without ever getting wet. Later, when they retired to the room to watch TV and play, I was able to write in this area and had very few interruptions.

Great Prices at the Holiday Inn Express in Hiawassee, Georgia

Some of the resorts and cabins in the area can run $200 to $300 per night and up. Most often, this Holiday Inn Express runs in the $100 price range – sometimes a little more, and sometimes a little less. This greatly appeals to me because we can stay comfortably for two or three nights and see a lot of what the area has to offer. Otherwise, at one of the resorts, we would probably only to afford one night. I love staying at the fancier places, but kids really do not care, as long as they have a swimming pool. This hotel felt very safe to me.

Holiday Inn Priority Club Late Checkout

If you are a member of the Holiday Inn Priority Club, you can take advantage of the late checkout request. Instead of having to check out at around 11 am the morning of your checkout, you can hang around until 1:00 or 2:00 pm before heading down the road. I usually use this time to take a quiet shower and pack up everything while the children splash one last time in the pool.

I feel this is a superb Holiday Inn Express location. It is located on Big Sky Drive, and has a great view of the area from the patio area. Make sure to ask for a room on the side with the view, or your window will mostly overlook the parking lot.
