DIY Shower Cleaner
How many of you take a shower? I’m sure all of you do. And how many of you clean the shower while you are in the shower?
I know what you are thinking, “there are chemicals! That sounds dangerous to your health!” Well I’m sorry to burst your bubble on the topic but no, I don’t use harsh chemicals that are in most shower cleaners and my shower is super clean.
I use a 3-ingredient solution that cleans the soap scum and you can wipe everything down while you are taking your own shower. It cuts down on the time I spent cleaning when I did my weekly chores, and it is super quick to do, so I don’t mind cleaning while I’m in there. My thought is always, might as well do it now so I don’t have to later.
I found this recipe out while talking to my daughter’s babysitter. She is a stay-at-home mother and lives with three children and four adults including herself. My eyes opened up when she told me she cleans the shower whenever she takes a shower. I thought the same thing you do, that’s not good.
She then told me how she uses a safe cleaner, makes it herself and puts it in a scrubber with a handle, and just leaves it in the bathroom. I thought she was a genius for this and I haven’t used another cleaner since. We already use dawn dish soap on our dishes which we eat off of, so how damaging to your body can it really be? We also use them to can off animals that have been in oil spills. So why not be able to use it while you shower?
- 1/2 cup of vinegar
- 1 tbsp. of blue dawn dish soap
- 2 tbsps. of lemon juice (I added this in because it helps cut the vinegar smell but I’m sure you can use essential oils in it instead)
- Mix the solution and pour it into the handle of the scrub brush.
- Bring it in the shower with you when you need to take one and use it to wipe down the walls and everything in there, you don’t need to really rinse everything down because you are showering in there anyway!
I hope you find this helpful. I know I love it since I don’t have any gross soap scum on the tub anymore and I don’t need to scrub the tub every week with a chemical cleaner to make sure it isn’t dirty.
