Things to do with Kids at Jekyll Island

Being “wealth challenged”, our family has enjoyed cheap family vacations to Jekyll Island for years. Jekyll Island is a kid’s dream-come-true, a perfect setting for a child’s imagination to run wild.

You’ll find kid-friendly activities fit for all ages, from toddlers to teens. Besides being economical, Jekyll Island is one of the best family vacation destinations around!

Some things kids can do by themselves or with a little adult supervision. Others require the presence of a responsible adult (know any?). All offer clean, G-rated, fun-filled adventure that will entertain your children, engage their senses and imagination, and challenge them physically.

Your kids will go to bed tired and happy – and give you parents a much-needed respite for some quality adult time!

Check out these Jekyll Island Family Adventures. Not just kid stuff, but action-filled activities for the entire family.

Jekyll also has many opportunities to participate in Sports and Recreation activities.

Jekyll Island’s beaches offer acres of sandy fun under the sun. There’s plenty to do and see and experience where the sand meets the sea.

Build sand castles, or search for that perfect shell.

Challenge the surf with a boogie board or a skim board. (I’ve busted my butt falling off one plenty of times, much to my boy’s delight).

Master the wind with a high-performance kite.

Who says cheap family vacations can’t provide some fun educational value. Your kids can learn all about the green sea turtle and more at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. Kids can delve into the turtle’s life cycle and environment, and even step interactively into a sea turtle’s shoes – or flippers – and grow from hatchling to mature adult turtle.

But danger awaits the careless or unwary sea turtle, so watch out! Depending on the choices you make, you might not make it to an adult!

Do the turtle thang, and have fun – and you don’t even have to tell your kids it’s an “educational experience”.

Tidelands Nature Center offers nature walks and kid’s nature-oriented activities, plus guided sea kayak tours of the marshlands and rivers surrounding Jekyll Island.

Immerse your kids in H2O with a visit to Summer Waves Water Park. A variety of water-based attractions will keep kids busy for the whole day. (Try the Pirates Passage Water Slide for a fast-paced wet and wild fun ride!)

Sign your children up for some of Jekyll Island’s kid’s programs, some provided by the island’s various hotels.

Got teens? While Jekyll Island is not known as a “Spring Break” destination, there are lots of fun things to do that will keep even teenagers happily involved.

Safety is paramount where kids are concerned. For peace of mind, take a gander at these vacation safety tips.

Active kids (and adults) get boo-boos from time to time. You can find medical help, first aid supplies and advice at several spots on Jekyll Island and off-island.

Even cheap family vacations should fire a child’s imagination with possibilities, and introduce them to stuff they’ve never experienced. These Jekyll Island fun activities fit the bill.
