The Peach Drop at Underground Atlanta ring in the New Year with an elaborate celebration. The New Years Festival is a day-long event with live entertainment, activities, and events for the whole family.
The Peach Drop New Years Event is the largest in the Southeast and the second largest of its kind in the nation. Festivities begin on December 31 at 11:00 am with the Coastal Talent Kids Show at the Budding Peach Stage. There will be various shows, kids’ activities and events there until 6 p.m. From there the action switches over to the Peach Drop Main Stage. This is where the headline shows, live performances, the Peach Drop, and magnificent fireworks display can all be viewed.
About The Peach Drop
The Peach Drop is an annual Atlanta tradition dating back to 1989. This year, the New Year’s Eve celebration is expected to draw over 170,000 people from all over the world. The massive Peach is actually a replica made up of foam and fiberglass. Weighing in at over 800 lbs. the Peach is 8-foot wide and eight feet across. As usual, the Peach will begin the New Year’s Eve Countdown from atop the 138-foot tower of lights at Underground Atlanta. It takes approximately a minute for the Peach to descend to the bottom. The touchdown occurs exactly at midnight signaling the start of the 2011 New Year!

An estimated 165,000 people will attend the Peach Drop this year. Underground Atlanta is ground zero for the Peach Drop festivities. Underground Atlanta is conveniently located near the Georgia State Capitol, Georgia Aquarium, and the Five Points MARTA Station. Underground Atlanta encompasses 6 city blocks along with three levels of shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. It is also home to Kenny’s Alley which is one of Atlanta’s best nightclub areas. Get there as early as possible as Downtown Atlanta will be bustling with people from the Chick-fil-A Bowl at the Georgia Dome.
Keep in mind it the Peach Drop is an outdoor event and the show must go on rain or shine. Sometimes the air temperature may be frigid so be sure to dress appropriately. Peach Drop Events Schedule
Kids’ activities include giant slides, face painting, games, and more. At 6 p.m. the party really kicks-off in high gear with live performances at the Main Stage where it runs nonstop until 12:30 a.m. After that, the entertainment continues at Kenny’s Alley where you can enjoy big screens, bands, and DJs. Popular nightclubs and bars include Scores, SubZero, Fuzion, Frequency, Infrared, and the Georgia Peach Restaurant & Lounge.
